In a major development on the International Tax front on 28th August, 2013 the General Council and General Assembly of the International Fiscal Association unanimously confirmed leading Senior Advocate and International Tax Expert, Mr. Porus Kaka from India as its Worldwide President. Mr. Kaka is the first Indian ever and also the first Asian ever in the 75 years history of this prestigious organization to take charge as its Worldwide President. The confirmation at the 68th Annual Congress of the IFA in Copenhagen culminated a process begun several years ago within the World Organization to appoint Mr. Kaka as its President. The news was greeted with justifiable pride by leading legal luminaries. Mr. Kaka is the first person from Asia to receive this prestigious recognition. One of his first duties as President of IFA will be to preside over the Mumbai Congress in 2014 and thereafter the Basel Congress in Switzerland in 2015.

Commenting on this appointment the former Chief Justice of India, Hon'ble Justice Sarosh H Kapadia stated - "Porus appeared before me, when I was the CJI, in several landmark cases. We Judges enjoy reflected glory. I found Porus always well prepared. He would never mislead the Court. His arguments were crystal clear. His statements on facts did not require the Judges to recheck with the Brief. These are the traits of a great Lawyer. These have taken Porus to the position which he deserves. I am happy that the General Council and General Assembly of IFA has unanimously confirmed the name of Porus Kaka as its Worldwide President. I am proud of his achievements. India should be proud that the name of one of its sons has been unanimously confirmed as the Worldwide President of IFA."

A leading Senior Tax Advocate, Mr. Sohrab E Dastur stated- "IFA has done itself and Asia proud by confirming in its platinum jubilee year the appointment of Mr. Porus Farrok Kaka as its incoming President. Porus, who is probably the youngest holder of such a high and coveted office, has the rare ability to lead a venerable organization with its varied membership of different national associations so as to increase the knowledge and awareness of international tax law systems and to make the same just and equitable."

Head-quartered in Rotterdam, the International Fiscal Association (IFA) was established in 1938 with its headquarters in The Netherlands, it is the largest non-governmental and non-sectoral international organization dealing with fiscal matters. Its objects are the study and advancement of international and comparative law in regard to public finance, specifically international and comparative fiscal law and the financial and economic aspects of taxation.

IFA completed 75 glorious years this year with a special celebration at the Peace Palace in The Hague where it was born in 1938.

Membership of IFA now stands at over 12,000 from 103 countries. In 66 countries IFA members have established formal IFA Branches. Direct membership is possible in countries where there is as yet no IFA Branch. IFA seeks to achieve these objects through its Annual Congresses and the scientific publications relating thereto as well as through scientific research. Although the operations of the IFA are essentially scientific in character, the subjects selected take account of current fiscal developments and changes in local legislation. IFA Annual Congresses are now the largest gathering of the cream of the International Tax communities throughout the world including Corporate, Government Officials, Judges, Practitioners etc. Its Annual Congresses are the prime destination for debates on International Tax Law and preparation for these Congresses start 8 to 10 years in advance. There is a great demand within international cities to be allocated this prestigious Congress and its venues are now finalized from 2014 to 2021 in different cities across the world including inter alia Mumbai, Basel, Madrid, Rio de Janeiro, Seoul, London, Cancun and Berlin.
